We cannot treat c-section scars just like any other scar. If it’s fresh, your client will have to recover from a major abdominal surgery while also trying to keep a newborn alive, while also going through matrescence, while also dealing with potential birth trauma and emotional damage (grief, anger, stress, guilt). We need to support their healing more compassionately, approach their scars with reverence and respect, hold space for what they went through, while also balancing all their other needs and restraints.
As for the physical scars, we can do much better than just ”surround the dragon” on the superficial one! Many more scars exist beneath the surface, and they all require specific treatment to heal effectively. Each tissue needs different tools, used during a specific time frame.
For older scars, we need to deal with deep-rooted adhesion tentacles that may have entrenched themselves in any direction or depth, weak abdominals, compensation patterns, and maybe residual birth trauma still very much alive in the unconscious mind. But there’s hope! A scar doesn’t stop adapting and changing because too much time has passed; it stops adapting because we no longer ask anything of it. We can induce change with our hands, our tools, and our words.
🌸 As TCM practitioners, we are uniquely skilled to treat both the physical scars and the emotional invisible ones. We can weave both types of healing together to facilitate a softer and quicker journey.
In this live workshop, learn and practice how to:
use tools to treat every layer of cesarean birth scars and their adhesions (including to prevent or treat hypertrophic and keloid scars); we will explore tuina, cupping, wet-cupping, needling, electroacupuncture, and moxa.
use tools to treat the invisible scars, help our client to process the emotional trauma, to build a healthy relationship with their scars, to inhabit their body, to let go of their dissociated state, and to own their birth story; we will explore counseling tools, meditation, visualisation suggestions, and a Qigong exercise that will make them cry salvific tears.
We will also see:
how to evaluate and palpate scars
techniques we can safely use during each healing stage: how, why, and for whom they work
how to treat scars for the cosmetic aspect (the superficial scar and the c-section shelf)
streamlined protocols, including treatment duration and frequency
the different surgical and suturing techniques and how they each impact healing.
🌸 And many more, of course! After this day, you will feel very confident to look at a cesarean birth scar no matter its age, to evaluate it and know what it needs, to suggest the right home exercise, with a clear treatment plan in your head for the next stages.
